GREAT STAY ON AMI

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Yellow House. Coming from WI, the views and sunsets were spectacular! We did not use the pool often because we found ourselves out on the beach most of the time. The house was clean, the kitchens were well equipped and the beds were surprisingly comfortable for a rental. We had dinner and drinks at The Sandbar a few nights and then on nights where we just wanted to relax in a more laid back atmosphere we would walk over to Slims for their cheesesteaks and beer. Great location, can't beat it!

Fabulous location and great property manager response team

First, the location, view, and indoor and outdoor spaces of The Big Yellow House put it in a class by itself. That said, if you read through a number of the previous reviews, you will see comments on the age of the house and subsequent wear and tear. Remember that a home suitable for large groups will always suffer some consequences. But I cannot praise highly enough the response of the rental management team to our questions and needs. I have never before rented from a company that provided a 7-day-a-week call response or done so in such a professional, swift, and friendly manner. Five stars for service, most certainly! Yes, a few things were worn. But the deck had recently been repaired and supplied with colorful new Adirondack chairs. The pool was clean and refreshing. I did not think I would like a covered pool--but it was perfect for morning workouts before hitting the beach and a nice respite after a long day in the sun. We much appreciated the privacy after dark. And the new keyless lock on the front door was a nice update! The spotless house, cold refrigerators, excellent ice makers, efficient air conditioning, and plentiful hot water and water pressure provided guest comfort. Eight adult women, four bathrooms, you do the math! Beautiful flooring with wide-plank stairs transitioning between levels ensured safety for this mobility-challenged person. Spiral staircases did not prevent our enjoyment of the top two floors and that incredible view. You can enjoy your stay on the first floor and leave the spiral staircases to the spryer guests! A fully equipped first-floor kitchen provided all gadgets and appliances and a full complement of serviceware. As a former working chef, I packed my car with a mobile kitchen and found that the only things I needed all week were my iron skillet for Taco Night and my chef knives because, you know, a former chef! It will not hurt to bring an additional saute pan if you feel you will be cooking four-burner meals. A recommendation for those who cook: the galley kitchen space downstairs is well-planned, but take 15 minutes when you arrive to go through the vast array of cabinets and drawers and organize things the way you want them to ensure comfortable and efficient food prep. We worked easily with four adults cooking and prepping at once. There are multiple small appliances. Take the second coffeemaker and a hot-water kettle to the upstairs kitchen along with a complement of mugs, cutlery, glasses, plates, etc. There is a dishwasher for your convenience and a two-burner portable stove-top in a lower cabinet. Take advantage of the enormous upstairs kitchen island for cocktails/wine and hors d'oeuvres in the evening to view the spectacular sunsets from the large balcony. The cons: the twin bedrooms could use new mattresses for more comfort. The ceiling fan in the downstairs TV area needs to be re-balanced or replaced. The TVs could use a reorganization of devices and wires or updated technology. There is not much you can do about spotty internet until the island service is improved. Remember unplugged vacations? Take a breath, sleep phoneless when service is down, or take your call out to the deck. You will look at the water and remember why you came to Anna Maria Island. And remember--call the rental company if you have questions or need anything such as lightbulbs or TV remote batteries. And take advantage of their concierge service. They will hook you up with the island's best. We look forward to our next visit!

Best Location you could ask for

This house is a bit dated and could use some upgrades but the location can't be beat. You can sit in the living room and see the beach and your family there as well. A few issues we had with the house: The upstairs living area can only be accessed by a spiral staircase; not ideal for small children. The downstairs refrigerator needs to be replaced. After placing a service call we figured out that you have to firmly make sure the doors shut every time you use it to keep it cold and it never really gets to temp. Also all 3 of the drawers were broken in some fashion. The back deck is great but has some boards that need replacing as they are a trip hazard - also the umbrella for the table was bent in the middle and unusable. There were some loose bricks laying around the pool area which again, for adults is not that big of a deal, but with smaller children it is a hazard - there was a hole in the corner where some of the bricks were. We arrived at 4pm as instructed but the cleaning crew was still there cleaning. They allowed us to enter anyway but I could tell that the cleaning was a bit rushed. The WIFI works but goes out REGULARLY. At least twice per day we had to unplug and reset the router. The TVs are also dated - would recommend providing instructions for how to use them - the upstairs TV had like 7 remotes. Also some of those remotes were missing the backs, buttons weren't working, and some were even missing batteries. We had lots of rainy days so unfortunately we were stuck inside a bit. :) Every single bathroom had at least one light blown out - easy replacement. Lastly, and my biggest concern, was the main door to the house. It would not lock and if not blocked, it would blow open on its own. Multiple times we came back to the house to find the door wide open so we had to stage a case of water out in front of the door in order to make sure the small children didn't go outside of the home. Overall we had a GREAT trip - loved the layout that very well worked for 2 families traveling together, but just not ideal for small children. The location honestly could not be beat and i would definitely rent this house again, but think that with the amount it cost, some of these small improvements should be made for future guests. I did call about the door issue and was told someone would come out but nobody ever did. I tried to call again multiple times but there was poor cell service so I eventually gave up. :)

Tabitha, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your stay at The Big Yellow House. It is an older Florida-style cottage on a beautiful stretch of beach. We can't' change the layout of the home and the spiral staircase is clearly shown in the pictures on our listing for the home. I'm sorry that this was an issue. We would have been happy to have arranged rental of a baby gate to keep the younger children off the stairs. I'm sorry that the cleaners were there past their scheduled time ~ keeping employees is a challenge for everyone right now, including our cleaning companies. I know that those who are working are doing their best to get the vacation homes ready on time for our guests' arrivals. Internet and cellular service on the end of a barrier island can be challenging ~ especially during storms. I'm sorry that you had to reset the routers on occasion. We did send two technicians over and the fridge was cooling to 37 degrees, so it was working as intended. Sometimes when there are large groups of people in and out of the fridge and it is stocked with more items than in a typical fridge, it can take a bit for it to cool down. I am not sure what happened with the front door, but that will be checked out by our maintenance team to make sure that the issue is corrected. The deck was replaced just last year, but we will also have our technicians go around and make sure that the boards and nails are level and not a tripping hazard. Again, thank you for letting us know about your stay. I hope that the time with your family on our beautiful beaches made up for some of the inconveniences mentioned.

Great Family Vacation

We had a lovely time in the Big Yellow House on Pine! Our family (me and my family, my sister and her family, and my parents) went for a family holiday vacation. My parents are older so having the house right on the beach was ideal. We all enjoyed breakfast on the deck every morning and being able to enjoy the sunset each evening from the house was perfection. Having separate areas was wonderful as my parents could be on the bottom level and the younger, more agile folks, were on the upper level. The furnishings could be updated and the kitchen is kinda small for the number of people that the house holds, but we were able to make it work for a week. We highly recommend this property.

The house was perfect for our family!! The only issues we had was the pictures showed 2 queen beds but the house only has 1 with a queen and 2 with twin beds. But we made it work. The location could not be better!!! Mornings with coffee and evenings with wine!!!! Didn't want to leave!!! -- Carleen ~ we are so happy your enjoyed your stay at The Big Yellow House. We agree that the location is hard to beat! I have checked into the listing regarding the beds and it is accurately describing what is currently at the house. The Big Yellow House My family vacationed at this house the first week in December. The house was exactly like the pictures showed. It was clean and perfectly decorated. The views were spectacular! We had 10 people and never felt on top of each other. It was amazing how big the house was. The sandbar restaurant was good and right next door. The beach was fabulous and we loved watching the dolphins in the morning. I cold not find anything wrong with the house and will definitely go back! Thank you for a great vacation!
