From dolphins to stingrays, from egrets to pelicans and so much more—this beautiful Barrier Reef Island is thriving with incredible sights to see! This week, a group of local boaters got a very special treat when they were boating just 40 miles off of the shores of Anna Maria Island:
ANNA MARIA ISLAND (FOX 13) – A group of boaters captured some incredible video off the coast of Anna Maria Island.
Tracy Gardner had her camera rolling as a 30-foot whale shark swam underneath their boat. Beverly Higgins of Palmetto, who was also on the boat, told FOX 13 they were about 40 miles offshore in a 26-foot Grady White Boat.
They were shocked to get so close to the massive creature. In the video, you see the shark swim just feet from their boat.
The women were on the boat with their husbands and friends. They say it happened Sunday afternoon, and they also spotted what looked like two other whale sharks in the area. “I was just so excited, so excited,” Gardner said. “I was shaking. I was just like, you can shake but hold the camera still. Like I said, it was just so exciting. Beautiful.”
