Sushi Restaurants on Anna Maria Island

Anyone looking for sushi restaurants on Anna Maria Island is in for a treat. The island has more than its share of excellent seafood establishments, and sushi lovers have several options from which to choose.

Let’s take a culinary tour of the island and the sushi restaurants that have become fixtures there. Each one has its own charms. If you’re ready to sample the sea’s bounty, there’s no reason not to try several of these establishments while you’re visiting Anna Maria Island this year.

AMI Sushi

AMI Sushi is one of the best Anna Maria Island seafood restaurants when you’re looking for fresh ingredients and reasonable prices. You might start with an order of the edamame. The pods arrive warm and lightly salted.

The seared tuna salad is a winner, with delicately seared, peppered tuna over crisp greens with a punchy ginger dressing. The soft-shell crab is worth your consideration as a main course, with panko-breaded crab morsels fried and finished with a dark and oily eel sauce. Moving on to the rolls, the best way to go is probably the baby lobster, with succulent lobster meat and Miso mayo.

The Island Ocean Star

The Island Ocean Star is another popular favorite among visitors. The crispy gyoza pork dumplings are a suitable way to start your meal. They’re pan-fried, crisp, and stuffed with minced pork and veggies. The sashimi appetizer with white meat fish, salmon, and bluefin tuna is also worthy of attention.

The sushi dinner entree has a somewhat generic name, but it’s one of the better opportunities to sample a wide range of what this restaurant and region have to offer. It comes with ten pieces of mixed nigiri, along with a California roll. The Island Ocean Star also features several Japanese curry entrees, including a seafood option with scallops and shrimp.

Tsunami Sushi

This establishment is one of the larger and more impressive-looking seafood restaurants on the island. There’s often live music, and the full bar with many high-end single malts might appeal to you as well.

Start with the lotus Rangoon, which features lobster, crab, and cream cheese in a thin wonton skin wrapper. The ruby tower with avocado, sweet potato, and sushi-style rice is another proven winner.

If you’re intent on having sushi, the double J roll with avocado, cream cheese, and crab delight never fails to please. You might want to go with something heavier from the entree section, though. The walnut shrimp selection with steamed broccoli and tempura fried shrimp drowning in walnut sauce gets full marks for both taste and presentation.

Sam Oh Jung

Sam Oh Jung is perhaps one of the most casual seafood restaurants Anna Maria Island has available. It features some traditional Chinese and Korean dishes along with a few sushi options.

The ginger salad with lettuce and ginger dressing can serve as the start to your meal, or you might try the seaweed salad instead. The chicken tempura or an egg roll would do fine as well.

Move on to the smelt roe nigiri or the spicy conch nigiri. If you’re set on getting a sushi roll, a spicy yellowtail roll with scallions, smelt, yellowtail, and cucumber is one of the better options. A bento box might also be to your liking. The kung pao box has several treats inside, including veggies, dumplings, oranges, and either steamed or fried rice.

Kojo

Kojo has low lighting and a fully stocked bar. The dark wood paneling indicates you’re in for a serious meal, and this popular island fixture doesn’t disappoint.

This venue has some creative takes on old favorites, like the tuna pizza. You get chunks of the freshest tuna on a light, flaky crust, along with truffle ponzu mayo, micro greens, and shaved red onion. The pork and shrimp gyoza with the spicy miso sauce is delectable as well.

Get an order of the char siu bao buns with pork belly and jalapeno for the table. For a main, have the Australian wagyu skirt steak or the grilled lamb chops with a spicy Korean bbq glaze. The rolls are a delicious take on traditional fare. We recommend the shiitake mushroom tempura roll.

Pier 22

Pier 22 is known for its special events, so make sure to check its calendar before making your reservations. They do weddings and other private functions, but if you’re there on a regular night, then you’re in for a treat. Many consider this to be one of the hands-down best seafood restaurants on Anna Maria Island.

You can get breakfast and brunch there on the weekends, but the dinner menu is spectacular and not to be missed. The crab cake with creole remoulade is one of their best starters, though it gets plenty of competition from their braised ribs with molasses coffee barbecue sauce.

With a wide and varied range of menu starters, you might have a hard time choosing which to try first. The seafood jambalaya is exquisite, as is the freshly-caught black grouper. If sushi is your go-to, we recommend trying the spicy sake roll with cucumber, scallion, salmon, and a fiery sauce.
