If you want to practice your swing on the Island you’ve got a choice of one course, but fortunately it’s a beauty: Key Royale. Situated in Holmes Beach, Key Royale offers a spectacular course with breathtaking views. Although the club is members-only, guests are permitted through the payment of the guest fee.
Take a short trip to the mainland and there are a couple of courses in easy striking distance at nearby Bradenton. The recently renovated Pinebrook Ironwood course now features Champion Ultra Dwarf Bermuda grass, which offers a superior playing experience. The course has been regarded one of the best in the area since it opened in 1970, regularly winning awards for the quality of its course and facilities.
At the IMG Academy you can play an 18-hole championship course that will challenge lower handicap players but is also a forgiving course for those on higher handicaps. With a full range of practice facilities, including putting greens, driving range and tuition from professional coaches the IMG Academy is a great course to visit if you want to up your game.
The Long Game
If you fancy venturing out a little bit further, into the Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota areas, you will find some exquisite courses such as the Legacy Golf Club. This course is an upscale 18-hole championship course that features multiple elevated tees. As an Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course this gem is often referred to as one of the most highly esteemed courses in this area.
The Rolling Green Golf Club is a public course, which offers lush fairways, smooth greens and incredible conditions for golfers of all skill levels.
