Things To Do In Anna Maria Island Indoors

If you are looking for a vacation spot with a laid-back atmosphere, unbeatable weather, gorgeous beaches, and plenty of family-friendly activities, then our Anna Maria Island rentals are perfect for you!

This seven-mile stretch of island is home to three cities: Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach, and Anna Maria. Each city has a relaxed vibe, and since this area is a hidden gem, you will feel like you have miles of beaches all to yourself.

Indoor Activities

With all the things to do on Anna Maria Island, you might need help figuring out where to start! You can visit historical sights, eat at one of the delicious restaurants in the area, or go shopping in some of the quaint shops.

Not only is there a lot of outdoor fun to be had, but there are also plenty of things to do on Anna Maria Island when it rains. If you happen to arrive during the rainy season, you will want to save this list, just in case.

Painting With A Twist

Painting With A Twist is located in Bradenton and is the perfect place for your group to kick back, enjoy a glass of wine, and paint something beautiful they can bring home. Simply pick an event by choosing what you would like to paint! Then reserve your spot online, pick up your favorite bottle of wine and be on your way. It is that simple!

You can book a group painting party for your bachelorette party, girls’ night out, date night, or just because it is raining and you need something fun to do!

They also host trivia night, a night to paint your pet, and other in-studio events. If you would rather stay in, you can pick up an at-home paint kit for you and your family to enjoy.

 Florida Maritime Museum

Another great rainy day activity is to visit the Florida Maritime Museum, located in Cortez, on four acres of Cortez Nature Preserve. Originally built in 1912, the museum used to be a schoolhouse. It was renovated much later and now houses the museum’s main exhibits.

Here, you can learn about the history of hurricanes or check out the Maritime Library. You can also immerse yourself in the story of Captain Blake Banks, a successful fisherman who left behind his seashell specimens from the Gulf of Mexico.

The museum’s permanent exhibits highlight the history of fishing in the area, from native cultures to the early settlers and modern commercial fisheries—boat models, tools, and fishing equipment help to tell their story.

The museum has fun educational programs, and the folk school offers hands-on classes that teach traditional skills. There is also a small library offering a variety of books and other research materials on maritime subjects focusing on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The rest of the grounds are full of native species and other buildings highlighting some of the area’s history.

Since the museum opened in 2007, its mission has been to collect, preserve and share knowledge, artifacts, and stories specific to Florida’s maritime heritage. They offer lots of fun, in-person educational programs at the museum, some of which you can take home.
