Barnacle Bar
One of the most unique bars on Anna Maria is Barnacle Bar, the smallest bar on the island. Unfortunately, this establishment has permanently closed, but you can still visit the Blue Marlin restaurant where it was located.
Blue Marlin was opened in 2011 by Adam Ellis, who restored a historic 1920s cottage to house his new venture. The bright blue colors are intended to send visitors to coastal Maine, and the fresh seafood will help transport your taste buds. Ellis’s 20+ year history in the restaurant business set him up for success, and locals and visitors alike have since flocked to his eatery and bar for relaxing evenings and great food.
The restaurant is located at 121 Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach, just minutes from several of our Anna Maria rental homes. This bar is actually the outdoor area of the local restaurant Blue Marlin, and they are located right in the heart of Bridge Street. You can enjoy a delicious meal, experience some fantastic live music, and then stroll down the street for some fun shopping.
The Doctor’s Office
Don’t let the sign fool you; this little place is a hidden gem, perfect for relaxing with your closest friends. The Doctor’s Office is sure to leave you with a new favorite place on the island.
The business got its name after the bar took over the location of an actual doctor’s office. It is run by the same group as the Beach Bistro and Eat Here, so you can expect excellent drinks that match the quality of food at their restaurants.
Their house cocktails range from $12 – $13. BUT, if you’re with a group and feeling adventurous, order “A Song of Ice and Fire”. It costs $45 and serves 4 people with a base of rum and brandy combined with Caribbean flavors including cinnamon, pineapple, orange, and doused in flames. It is a drink that will definitely be remembered!
Kokonut Hut
If you’re looking for the quintessential Tikki bar on the beach, then you’ve found the place. Great for a beverage during the hottest part of the day, or an evening top off, the Kokonut Hut is the ideal spot to dig your feet in the sand and listen to the waves.
Located at the Gulf Drive Cafe in Bradenton Beach, this restaurant has been in operation for 30 years and offers family-friendly beachfront dining. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this spot is almost always full but in-between hours are a great time to claim your seat and order a beer or special cocktails like the Island Mule, or a boozy slushy.
A couple of things to note about your visit. The bar is dog-friendly and dancing is encouraged. So come hang out, chill out, and adopt the island lifestyle.

Anna Maria Island has a wide assortment of places to grab a drink. We recommend the Freckled Fin Pub for its low-key Irish charms as well as Slim’s Place if you prefer a more classic American sports bar, with fries, burgers, and brews.
There’s also Hurricane Hank’s, the friendly neighborhood dive bar, Drift On It, and the bright and exciting D Coy Ducks. These island bars are a blast and they all offer live music.
