Use Anna Maria Island’s FREE Trolley To Explore On Your Vacation

Anna Maria Island is one of the biggest hidden gems of Florida. The island offers all the fun of a Florida vacation without all the hustle and bustle. You’ll easily be able to enjoy the sandy beaches and the fun shopping without bumping elbows. The small-town feel lends itself well to a totally relaxing vacation.

The calm vibe of the island means that many people don’t use cars to get around, instead taking advantage of other modes of transportation. One of your best options, especially if you’re on a budget, is the Anna Maria Trolley. The trolley is easy, convenient, and, best of all, free!

Beginnings

The trolley begins its journey at the Anna Maria City Pier on the north side of the island. Before you jump on, there is plenty to explore! Cool off at Two Scoops Ice Cream Shop, browse the clothes at Island Cabana, or walk along the white sand and try to spot a dolphin or two.

The last of route’s 14 stops is Coquina Beach, located on the island’s south side in Bradenton Beach. Here, you can stop to let your kids wander in awe at the whimsical wetlands and pines. If you’re riding through on a Sunday, be sure to visit the beach market.

Major Stops and Routes

There is a stop every 2-4 blocks along the route, and there are several that you’ll definitely want to get off for. If you’re looking for some great beach space, try Pine Avenue, just one stop down from the pier. Not only will you have stunning views of the water, but the sand is always beautiful and clean, perfect for taking a sunset walk or stopping to pick up seashells. You can also visit The Sandbar Restaurant on this stop, located just between Spring and Pine Avenues.

If you want to get some retail therapy, get off at the stop near The Plaza, located where Marina Drive and Gulf Drive meet. Here, you’ll find four sections to explore everything from clothing to jewelry to art galleries. This is a great place to spend an afternoon, and you’ll find a shop to captivate everyone in your group.

Another popular beach spot is Manatee Public Beach. This stop is perfect to spend the day; you can lie on the sand, collect seashells, or head down the road for some wonderful food and shopping. For more information about all the trolley’s stops, check out this trolley map.

Visit Sarasota

If you stay on the trolley all the way to Coquina Beach, you can then switch to the Long Boat Key Trolley for just .75 cents and travel into Sarasota. This is a great option if you don’t have a car on your vacation or you just want to try something new for the day. Sarasota has never-ending entertainment options and maintains a more calm and relaxed vibe than other Florida cities. You’ll also have an amazing view of the coast and the adorable Anna Maria Island cottages on your ride!
