All You Need to Know About Public Parking and Beach Access on Anna Maria Island

Anna Maria Island is a hidden gem that makes the ideal location for a getaway with your family or your sweetheart. At just 7 miles long, this tiny island is easy to get around, so you can simply walk or bike between your rental and your destination. If you do decide to drive, especially if you’re hauling the family to the beach, you’ll need some information about parking on the island. Read on for our complete guide to parking and beach access on AMI.

About Parking on Anna Maria Island

Heading to the beaches on Anna Maria Island can be a fun way to spend the day, but parking can sometimes be stressful. If at all possible, try to get to the beach first thing in the morning for the best chance at securing a parking spot. Since many of the lots are free, they tend to fill up fast.

If you can’t get a spot at the beach, there are a few places on the island where you can park along the streets. These spots include Willow Avenue, Bay Boulevard, and Magnolia Avenue, among others. Be sure to pay close attention to signs, and keep your tires off of walkways. Parking is strictly enforced in these areas.

3 Main Beaches

Many visitors get confused while looking for Anna Maria beach, but that isn’t an actual name of a beach located here. The three main beaches on the island are Anna Maria Bayfront Park, Manatee Public Beach, and Coquina Beach.

All of these locations have various public access points to get you to the shore. Bayfront Park has tons of parking at 310 N. Bay Boulevard, but be aware that it fills up quickly on weekends. This spot is ideal for the whole family with playgrounds for the kids and tons of shore space. At sunset, walk to Bean Point for a truly breathtaking view.

Manatee Public Beach also has a spacious free parking lot with ADA parking available, located from the entrance at Manatee Avenue and Gulf Drive. You’ll definitely want to get here early, as this is Anna Maria’s most popular beach. Access the beach from 29th St., 41st St., or 42nd St. Once you arrive, you’ll have plenty to see and do, like letting the kids explore the playground or grabbing a bite at the AMI Beach Café. This beach is especially popular with families thanks to the various amenities and lifeguards on duty.

Finally, Coquina Beach is arguably the least crowded of the 3 beaches, perfect for a relaxing picnic. Find parking at 6 Street South or at the main entrance at Gulf Drive South. Nature lovers will adore the boardwalk, biking paths, and shelling opportunities. You can enjoy the sheltered picnic area and rest assured in the water thanks to the lifeguards.

Other Things to Know

Getting from our Anna Maria Island rentals to the beach is easy, but as we’ve said, make sure to get there early for your best shot at a parking spot. If you’re okay with leaving your car behind, see if the free Anna Maria Island trolley has a stop near your destination. It provides great views of the island while you get to the beach or pier, and you don’t have to worry about rushing for a parking spot. The trolley stops near all three of the most popular beaches on the island, as well as tons of other stops around AMI.
