If you’re an outdoors type of person, and love to be immersed in nature then Anna Maria Island is an ideal vacation spot. The Island has an incredibly diverse eco-system, with many truly wonderful and unique animals from sea turtles and manatees to oystercatchers and laughing gulls finding their home here or in the surrounding waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

With several local parks, some even located directly on the Island, you are never too far from immersing yourself in the local habitat and there are many guided tours on both land and sea, so you can get up close and personal with the flora and fauna.

Located directly on the Island, you will find Coquina Baywalk. This offers you a fantastic balance of hiking and breathtaking views. While Leffis Key’s trail is barely a mile long its mangrove tunnels and stunning scenery offer a true glimpse into all the natural beauty that Florida has to offer. Follow the tunnels to several of the observation decks that allow you to peek out on to the Sarasota Bay and the landscapes.

If you are looking to get some more hiking in while you are visiting the local area than you might want to pay a visit to Robinson Preserve and its nature trails. This preserve is 487 acres of coastal wetland habitats and offers many great activities including kayaking and canoeing, bicycle trails, rollerblading and managed fishing. This outstanding preserve also offers wildlife viewing where you can observe several different species of birds and other wildlife.

Another fantastic park to visit is the De Soto National Memorial where nature and history collide for an educational family experience. With lots of events, including free kayak tours, this park is a great place to explore with your little ones. Take in amazing views of the waters and landscapes as you learn about the history of the legendary explorer Hernando de Soto.

If you enjoy spending your time outside and exploring, then you will surely enjoy what Anna Maria Island has to offer! With plenty of choices to choose from you can always spend your days exploring the 7-mile stretch of the beaches, the Baywalk or other wildlife hotspots. No matter how you choose to explore, one thing is for sure, you will be amazed by the remarkable beauty that our local area has to offer.
